Gephyrochromis lawsi "Mbamba Bay"

Gephyrochromis lawsi is living most of the times on a reasonable depth above a sandy bottom however sometimes they can also be found in reasonable shallow water in the neighbourhood of rocky shores. They are mainly found in the northern part of the lake like in Nkhata Bay and Chitimba Bay along the western coast but there are also some populations found along the Tanzanian coast among others in Mbamba Bay, another one a little northern from Manda and they were als spotted in the neighbourhood of Liuli. These examples were caught in Mbamba Bay.

In the lake the males of these species can grow to about 12 cm, in the aquarium however they can grow a little taller because of a good feeding, females stay smaller.

Gephyrochromis lawsi is in common a real peaceful cichlid. You can best keep this species with other peaceful (Mbuna) species and multiple females in a tank with enough places to hide.

In the lake they are seeking the sand and little rocks for food. In the aquarium they are comfortable with any food. They take everything they get offered, like spirulina pellets, mysis, artemia, cyclops and shrimp-peas mix.
